Intro

The Museum of the Future in Dubai stands as an architectural icon, defined by its striking elliptical structure adorned with intricate Arabic calligraphy. This poster project tasked me with translating the museum's bold exterior language into a compelling graphic communication piece while maintaining the integrity of its distinctive visual identity.

Objective

Design a promotional poster that captures the essence of the Museum of the Future by leveraging its most recognizable architectural element—the illuminated oval frame. The goal was to create a visual hierarchy that draws visitors' attention while embedding the museum's identity through geometric forms and cultural typography, resulting in a piece that feels both contemporary and architecturally grounded.

Challenge

The primary challenge was distilling an iconic 3D architectural structure into a 2D graphic format without losing its visual impact or cultural significance. The complexity lay in:

  • Translating the museum's curved, dimensional form into flat design elements that remain instantly recognizable

  • Balancing the bold geometric architecture with legible typography and information hierarchy

  • Incorporating Arabic calligraphy in a way that honors the building's design language while maintaining poster functionality

  • Creating visual tension and movement that mirrors the building's dynamic presence in the Dubai skyline

Result

The final poster abstracts the museum's signature oval frame as the dominant design element, rendered with gradient coloring that echoes the building's illuminated exterior. Strategic use of red and blue geometric overlays creates visual dynamism, while the layered Arabic calligraphy reinforces the architectural narrative. The composition maintains clean information hierarchy, guiding the viewer from the striking centrepiece to key details about the museum. The design successfully bridges architecture and graphic communication, creating a poster that functions both as a promotional tool and a standalone artistic expression of the building's iconic form.
